Pipistrel is a manufacturer of light aircraft, renowned for innovation, pioneering, performance and efficiency. Pipistrel’s main products are single- to four-seat single engine piston aircrafts, sold worldwide. It employs 74 people, 16 in R&D. It received numerous awards, most notably winning the NASA Green Flight Challenge 2011 sponsored by Google for the world’s most energy efficient aircraft by flying the world’s first four seater electric aircraft Taurus G4. It won the UKTI Award for innovation at 2010 European Business award.
It’s main R&D activities are aerodynamics, structures, CAD design, mechanical design, rapid prototyping, electronics design and structural and flight testing. It has extensive experience in managing complex projects, having launched 7 types of aircraft, most recently the four seat Panthera, which is to be certified according to EASA CS23 standards. The University of Maribor is the second largest university in Slovenia educating about 22 000 students and employing about 1800 employees. It is an autonomous, scientific research and educational institution with purpose to transfer knowledge through different educational programs. Two Faculties with its research centres are participating in the project O Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (Institute of Robotics) and Faculty of Civil Engineering (Transport Economics Centre) . Institute of Robotics (IR) at Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences is engaged in the design and modelling of mechatronic systems. Among its research activities the research in the field of power electronics systems (different structures, control and electric drives control is particularly important alongside research in the field of system integration and rapid control prototyping. Institute is also engaged in development of advanced structures and control algorithms to be used in variety of electrical and mechatronics devices (actuators, robots, power electronics converters . The Transport Economics Centre (TEC) is a research centre within the Faculty of Civil Engineering. The Centre conducts international, national and regional scientific and R&D projects in the field of transport, carries out studies and provides expert opinions for different institutions, companies and other clients. Its main research fields are transportation economics, logistics, transportation technologies, transport and environment, transport policy, transportation planning & development.
